Freight Broker Tips: Becoming a More Efficient Shipper

02/15/2008 - As your freight broker, Arrowlines is committed to providing the highest level of service possible. Your satisfaction is our number one priority, and to help ensure success we have compiled a list of tips that can be utilized on your end to make that a certainty.

Timely pick up and delivery, and thereby a seamless flow of goods can be assisted by simply:

  • Building trust at the onset of the relationship. Do everything you can to work together in a positive manner. This will in turn provide even better customer service.

  • Evaluating your requirements and expectations of your freight broker. Are your terms realistic?

  • Paying bills on time.

  • Remembering that freight brokers pay drivers to drive. Try not to pull them off the road to inquire about freight information unless necessary.

  • Negotiating terms at the onset of the relationship. It is helpful for both parties to determine if cash payment will be received or if you could be granted credit.

  • Requesting an original bill of lading (BOL) but being flexible about its receipt. Sometimes, providing a BOL can be difficult.

  • Providing accurate data about shipment weight, measurements, and customs clearance requirements. The DOT will stop a carrier that presents wrong information.

  • Remembering that shippers are responsible for cargo and should provide proper information and documentation.

Remembering these few simple tips when dealing with your freight broker will help ensure a smooth process.
