Working for the Right Truckload Broker: How to Choose

02/15/2008 - In today's competitive workplace, finding work with a truckload broker that is rewarding can be quite easy. However, each truckload broker has different things to offer, so when you're shopping around it's important to evaluate each one on an individual basis.

First and foremost, you need to find a truckload broker with headquarters in your general area to avoid driving extra miles without a load. Otherwise, the result would be additional miles without pay.

The pay rate is also an important consideration when evaluating truckload brokers. You should ask questions such as:

  • Will I get paid by the mile or by the hour?

  • When will I be paid? Is it a set number of days after the submission of paperwork or a set date?

  • Will I be paid by check or direct deposit?

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, you should ask a truckload broker how the dispatch process works. If you spend a lot of time waiting for freight to be available, you will be wasting time and money.
